Locals Prepare For Heat
DULUTH, Ga. — A leg cramp cut baseball practice short for the Galbreaths at Short Howell Park. Scott Galbreath was prepared for the hot weather. He had water and a small fan for his son.
On Wednesday, folks said they were being careful in the heat. But they were more concerned with forecasters predicting Thursday could be the hottest day of the year.
Ebony Knight was nearby watching her son play. She said she was keeping a close eye on him because of the hot weather. Tomorrow she is planning to keep her family inside. She said, “I’m thinking of his health in general. I don’t want him to pass out or anything because he wants to have a little fun.”
Brametrius Jeffries said he has no choice but to cope with the temperatures. He works outside. He filled the back of his caravan with water and sports drinks.
Melanie Miller, with the Gwinnett County Health and Human Services Division, was also filling the back of her vehicle. She though was picking up fans donated at Gwinnett County fire stations. The fans are for the county’s senior citizens.
Miller said, “A lot of them live in older homes that are not equipped for heating or air.”
She said 60 fans were dropped off. The fans go to seniors who are over the age of 60, live in Gwinnett County and have a financial need.
