Georgia State athletics & Newstalk 1160 “The Talk of the Town” have reached an agreement Newstalk 1160 (WCFO-AM) will be the official flagship radio station for Georgia State’s inaugural football season. ATLANTA- Georgia State athletics and Atlanta’s JW Broadcasting have reached an agreement for “Newstalk 1160 (WCFO-AM) . . . The Talk of the Town” to become the official flagship radio station for Panther football and men’s basketball.

Georgia State student radio station, WRAS 88.5 FM, will remain the official student station of Panther athletics and will carry all football and men’s and women’s basketball games as well as selected baseball games.

The agreement between GSU athletics and JW Broadcasting begins immediately and runs through the 2011-12 school year. Newstalk 1160 is currently airing the Rod Barnes Radio Show (Mondays, 4-5 p.m.), the weekly program hosted by the GSU basketball coach, and sister station WMLB 1690 AM is simulcasting men’s basketball games.

Beginning next fall, Newstalk 1160 will be the official flagship station for Georgia State’s inaugural football season, carrying all games as well as head coach Bill Curry’s radio show. Newstalk 1160 will also be the flagship station for GSU men’s basketball.

“Our partnership with JW Broadcasting is an important step forward as we launch Georgia State football and grow our entire athletics program,” said Director of Athletics Cheryl L. Levick. “This partnership will help us broaden our reach in the Atlanta market, and even more importantly, it gives us a starting point from which we can build a state-wide radio network.”

“Our student radio station, WRAS, has always been a tremendous partner for athletics and will continue to be an important element in our broadcast package,” added Levick. “All football and basketball games will continue to air on WRAS.”

Jeff Davis, Vice President and General Manager of JW Broadcasting, said “We are extremely excited to be working with two of the nation’s leading coaches in Bill Curry and Rod Barnes, and one of the best play-by-play guys in this town in Dave Cohen. We look forward with great anticipation to working with the folks at one of Georgia’s premiere institutions of higher learning and the up-and-coming Georgia State athletics program.”

It’s that time again…The time of year when we think about all the great things we would like to accomplish in this fresh new year. Maybe it’s personal, like losing weight or quitting smoking, maybe it’s about business, like increasing profits by 10%. It all sounds wonderful, but , if you are like 71% of the population, you will probably be back to eating m&ms and playing Suduko at your desk every morning by the end of the month.

No worries, my guest this week, Bernadette Boas, owner of Focal Point Coaching of the Boas Group, is here to help. Not only will she offer simple goal setting advice, but she also offers advice on how to increase productivity and reach those lofty business goals with the help of a business coach. She also gave us a sneak preview of her upcoming book” Shedding the Corporate Bitch”, but you’ll have to tune in to learn more about that. (Yes, you can say bitch on the radio!)

Tune in Saturday and Sunday from 1-2 for Women on the Move!

Atlanta, GA – December 2, 2009 – Bon Jovi has tapped rockers Dashboard Confessional to appear as special guest on select North American dates of their 2010-2011 “The Circle World Tour,” promoted by AEG Live. Fresh off the success of the November Interscope release of their sixth album, Alter the Ending, Dashboard Confessional will perform the opening set at Bon Jovi’s Atlanta concert at Philips Arena on April 15th, 2010, as well as at shows in Los Angeles, Seattle, Denver, Philadelphia and more.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at the Philips Arena Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations, via Ticketmaster charge-by-phone at 1-800-745-3000, Ticketmaster Express at 866-448-7849 (automated only self service line) or online at Ticketmaster.com. Tickets are subject to applicable service charges and event time and date are subject to change. Log on to www.bonjovi.com for the most up to date concert and ticket on-sale information.

Dashboard Confessional, led by singer-songwriter Chris Carrabba, is one of the most acclaimed acts of the last decade. The group’s 2000 debut , Swiss Army Romance, was followed by gold-selling records The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most (2001), A Mark, a Mission, a Brand, a Scar (2003), and Dusk and Summer (2006), as well as 2007’s The Shade of Poison Trees. In addition, 2002’s MTV Unplugged 2.0 achieved platinum status as it broke the band through to a more mainstream audience. Dashboard Confessional’s latest opus, Alter the Ending, was released through Interscope Records on November 10, 2009, as both a standard version and a two-disc deluxe edition containing acoustic versions of the album’s 12 songs, including first single, “Belle of the Boulevard”. Rolling Stone praised the album with a four out of five rating, saying “The emo godfather’s sixth album proves he’s also gotten better in that span.”

Upon the announcement of Bon Jovi’s 2010-2011 “The Circle World Tour,” the GRAMMY Award-winning band sold more than 500,000 tickets on the first day of sales. Bon Jovi will spend much of the next two years on the road, performing 135 shows in 30 countries. Following in the footsteps of their hugely successful “Lost Highway Tour—Billboard’s #1 top-grossing tour of 2008—Bon Jovi will draw fans around the world into The Circle, with a residency at London’s O2 Arena in June 2010 before returning to America in the fall for an additional nationwide leg, and further dates well into 2011. Tickets for “The Circle World Tour” are on sale now for North American concerts – information can be found at http://www.bonjovi.com/tour.

According to Marietta entrepreneur and author of 9 children’s books, Lori Lite, the answer is a definite “Yes”.

Lori and her husband had been working out of the proverbial “basement” for years, writing and publishing a series of beautifully illustrated books that help children strengthen self esteem, conquer anxiety and get to sleep quickly. Recognition from nationally acclaimed psychologists and tremendous feedback from parents helped flame the desire in Lori to grow the company to new levels and get these books on to the shelves of the nations largest bookstores. There was only one thing stopping her from expansion…lack of capital!

Like most entrepreneurs, Lori applied for SBA and other loans, but to no avail. Just when hope for an infusion of capital had run out, a facebook friend told Lori about a new show”Shark Tank” on ABC that was looking for contestants. When Lori discovered that the audition didn’t involve starvation, wearing a bikini on national televesion or being dropped into a pit of Great Whites in a shark cage, but would simply involve telling the story of her company Stress Free Kids, on camera, Lori was all over it!

Hear more about the audition and what she did to do take home $250,000!

Tune in to Women on the Move this Saturday and Sunday from 1-2!

”Mom, I could get the swine flu if I go to school today”. “Mom, didn’t you know today is a teacher workday?”

If you are the parent of a school aged child you’ve probably been beseiged by your kids with all kinds of excuses to avoid going to school in recent days. But what if these seemingly innocent pleadings are something else. What if your child is afraid to go to school because he or she is afraid to face another day of torment by a bully? How do you recognize the signs of bullying?

Joining me this week to talk more about what do if your kid is being bullied, what do if your kid is the bully and an open and honest discussion of what the schools are doing right and wrong to adress the issue is Barbara Harvey, Executive Director of Parents, Teachers and Advocates, Inc.

It’s great to know there are women out there who care!If you would like to learn more, there is a conference on October 3 at Families First in midtown. For more information go to www.ptanda.org.

I haven’t bought a home in a long, long time , but if I were in the market in Atlanta, I would think twice about going the traditional route .

Until my interview with Amy Walker from Your Home Team Advisors, I had no idea how quickly the expenses can mount up as you search for your new home. First you pay the home inspector, then write another check to the surveyor or structural engineer, if you even know to hire one, and then you go to closing with a generic document that can cost you thousands because it may not protect you ,the buyer. In our interview Amy talked about how her company arranges all of these services for you at no cost to you and explained the importance of legal representation at the closing table, also at no cost to you.

This new way of buying real estate is sure to anger realtors, yet enlighten homebuyers. Find out more at www.yourhometeamadvisors.com.

Hope you liked the interview! Let me know! Tune in next week-end as I talk to an expert in bullying.
