Dr. Laura on Newstalk1160
Atlantans cried out when we changed our daytime lineup back in April, and we listened!
When Newstalk 1160…”The Talk of the Town“ moved talk radio icon “Dr. Laura” Schlessinger to the evenings, the outpouring of letters, phone calls, and emails from angry listeners was so overwhelming that the station made the decision to move “Dr. Laura” back to her original timeslot. Starting this Monday, June 15, Atlantans will be able to hear “Dr. Laura” weekdays from 1pm-3pm, as well as Saturdays from 5pm-7pm on her exclusive Atlanta home, Newstalk 1160…”The Talk of the Town“.
When asked about the change in lineup, Jeff Davis, Vice President/General Manager of Newstalk 1160, said: “We knew [she] had listeners, but when we got flooded with hundreds of irate phone calls and emails, we realized we made a mistake. Not since Coca-Cola came out with the New Coke, has there been such an outcry from the public. I can’t even go out anymore. Soccer Moms all over Atlanta are out to get me. Hopefully, this will change all that. I’m almost out of food.”
New York has them. Los Angeles has them. And now Newstalk 1160 has brought the nation’s top talk show hosts to Atlanta Radio.
Check out our new weekday lineup. Don Imus: 6am-10am; Laura Ingraham: 10am-1pm; Dr. Laura: 1pm-3pm; Mancow: 3pm-7pm; Lou Dobbs: 7pm-9pm; Dennis Miller: 9pm-11pm; Jerry Doyle: 11pm-1am.
About Dr. Laura: A phenomenon in the world of national radio, Dr. Laura occupies a unique niche wide enough to accommodate 18 million listeners. Dr. Laura’s one-of-a-kind wit and wisdom swept the country in record time. Within four short years she was sharing the top rung of the ladder with none other than Rush Limbaugh and became the first woman to ever win a Marconi Award.
Dr. Laura has revolutionized syndicated talk radio, bypassing the tried and true topics of politics, sports and relationships, to establish a lively and provocative daily forum for the discussion of morals, ethics, and values in everyday behavior and circumstances. In so doing, she has also attracted the first-ever national talk show audience almost evenly divided between men and women.
When asked about her success, Dr. Laura said, “I consider it a blessing and privilege to be able to broadcast each day and touch so many lives so deeply and personally. Each call is a unique opportunity to help someone ‘do the right thing,’ while other listeners are moved and motivated by what they hear in a call.”
For one thing, she is the prototypical baby boomer-the child of an American GI and an Italian war bride. Raised in New York, Laura Schlessinger absorbed its pace and pulse, as well as the brash confidence of people who live in “the greatest city on earth.” She entered college at 17 and obtained her Masters and Ph.D. degrees in Physiology simultaneously from the Ivy League’s Columbia University.
After moving to California in the mid-’70s, Laura taught at both USC and Pepperdine University, and earned her license as a Marriage and Family Counselor. In addition to Professor and Counselor, she also became a local radio personality. A trailblazer in the nascent trend of radio talk therapy, she was drawing record-breaking Southern California audiences to her late night show with her humor and remarkable insight. Over the years, her radio career has consistently surpassed expectations and become a national phenomenon in the world of talk radio.
Dr. Laura has the courage to consistently speak out, challenging the hardening feminist lines as anti-female and anti-family, earning in the process the militant feminists’ undying enmity, which she wears as a badge of honor. She continues her emphasis on right and wrong and the importance of consistently striving to do the right thing. As she shares her radio callers’ struggles with their moral dilemmas and ethical quandaries, she calls on the traditional wisdom of the Ten Commandments as her reference point for guiding and educating them.
Dr. Laura answers to a higher authority. Thousands of listener calls, faxes and letters each week, as well as millions of copies of her books in print assure her that her voice is a beacon and her words a catalyst for positive change in countless lives.
